Special Topics: Critical and Contemporary Issues in Education- EDUC 780
Spring 2014 Dr. Edna Martinez Reflection… Current issues across the PK-20 education continuum was viewed in the lens of educational leaders. Reading cover to cover and synthesizing the academic book review for Tearing Down the Gates: Confronting the Class Divide in American Education was a fulling experience for me. It was an eye opener for me as I had not realized the adverse impact of class issue in in PK-20 educational path in the United States. Classroom discussions focused on issues and topics such as diversity, access to education, college readiness, mission creep, striving, funding sources and the commercialization of higher education.Reading research articles and visiting university websites to learn the way mission creep is portrayed was astonishing. It was stimulating to be mindfully look for topics related to education for each week for classroom discussions. Current policies and practices of the governing party and current political landscape shapes the critical and contemporary issues in education in any given era. |
