Foundations in Educational Leadership = EDUC 702
Summer 2014 Dr. Lynn Diaz-Ricco Reflection… Dr. Lynne Díaz-Rico introduced us to a variety of educational philosophers and leadership concepts by exposing us to read 45 journal articles & summarizing each article, reading 5 books and encouraging us to presentations of complex concepts. I particularly enjoyed learning about Foucault, power, performativity, Trust and betrayal in leadership, Social justice, Politics of leadership and Women’s leadership styles. The concept of the Panopticon was new to me. It is amazing to see the similarity of the Panopticon and the surveillance in our education system. Out of the 5 books, I enjoyed Women and Educational Leadership (Grogan & Shakeshaft, 2010) as I found some similarities in my leadership styles to the leadership concepts mentioned in the book (i.e. collective decision making, emotional intelligence and leading with the heart). This course also expanded my knowledge to think globally. I enjoyed reading the journal article - The teacher’s soul and the terrors of performativity by Ball (2010). Ball who is an Englishman shared his expertise and experience of how some teachers have loss the passion of teaching due to the pressure put upon them about performativity as in the assembly/production line of the manufacturing plant. As an early childhood Administrator, I support educators to have the freedom to elicit their passion in order for them to provide young children a stimulating early education classroom so that children can reach their potential in their own creative manner. The terror of Performativity is in fact killing the passion of the teaching profession to which great educators are getting burnt out and leaving the profession of education. |
